ESI (Exoskeleton Innovations) is a startup that I was lucky enough to be a part of thanks to the Hatchbridge Incubator. ESI is a startup focused on creating exoskeletons for physical rehab and therapy for recently injured athletes. I was a part of a design competition held by Hatchbridge to design their website.
For this comp I worked in a group, and it was only a weekend long, so time allotted for research was short. However, research is, in my opinion, the most important part of the design process, so skipping it was not an option.
We kept it brief and chose these design methods:
With the results from these research methods, we jumped into action.
Implementation and development were not required for this competition, but as a web developer, I always have to try. I took it upon myself to try to learn Webflow (the ESI team wanted this CMS) in the two days we had to design and develop the site. Webflow is a CMS used for creating seamless websites and, if used properly, gave us a huge advantage over the rest of the competition. Given the time, I was able to produce a workable mockup using Webflow and present it to the ESI team.
In the end, we placed second in the competition, and though I was bummed I didn’t win, the opportunity left me feeling proud of what I was able to accomplish in such little time. Below are links to the Figma and a semi working Webflow site (Desktop Only, left video). (Warning: The webflow site was only supposed to work well enough to present to the ESI team!)
